Academic sholarship

Hello all
first of all i just want to share the good news about our DS being offered 40% academic sholarship at one of the leading independent school. Now the question i want to ask is from anybody who is/hasbeen in the same position in the past is:
How likely is that the scholarship would be withdrawn/reduced next year?
Does it normally happen or if DS maintains his level of academic interests, he would be continuing with scholarships next year as well.
He got this scholarship for 10+ and our decision to take or leave GS test this yearat 11+ now depends on the likelihood of his continuation of scholarship.
Please advise and share your experiences.

I think you need to ask the school!

Most scholarships are for the period of time that they are at the school subject to maintaining a good academic record.

You need to review the conditions under which it was offered. Our daughter was offered a scholarship at 11+ last year, it was made extremely clear that it was expected that she'd remain at the school right through to Upper 6th and the school might demand repayment if she left before that. There was no suggestion, though, that it depended on anything else.

Ou DS got a scholarship for tear 7 entry in September. The letter clearly states that it would be available until he finishes his A levels subject to him maintaining scholarship standard while at the school.

Think you need to refer back to the offer letter or in the absence of information find out from the school.

Once awarded, scholarships are very rarely withdrawn. One's child would have to be very naughty.
There are a few schools which recently have decided to defy the norm and award scholarships from year to year, but these are exceptions and would make this clear at the start.

Well done on the scholarship. Are your intentions to send him there for a year and then try for the grammar school?
