Wow, this is an interesting thread! I am all agog to find out what happens at DAO now. I have never heard of anyone being tutored but this does not mean anything. I know straight A* students who have gone onto Oxbridge but don't know if they had this helping hand. When do they start to stream at St A's? How would you know when to step in? When do the school start giving you the predicted grades? Is it more common for GCSE or A level or is it about the same? AS results out this week. Would this be a good time to call in extra help? Dg

St Albans put the 1st form boys into maths sets in January based on their Autumn Term performance (homework & classwork ) and two tests.

Thank you magicmum, that is very interesting. Do they stream for any other subjects in KS3? DG

I believe they do but remember that he intake is already pre-selected so there is not such a huge gap in ability.

Eton has 14 sets for every subject from day one!

Amazing! 14 sets and how many subjects? How on earth would you keep track of who is in what set for what subject, you must see a different group of boys evey lesson! So what set was Prince Harry in? DG

Must be a big school because according to their website boys are taught in groups of 'about 20' for the first three years. So 280 in a year...that is a big intake.
