Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker for a little while since I discovered this fabulous site. I really wish I had discovered it sooner though as DD1 is in year 5 and we're hoping she gets admission to one of our choice North London Consortium secondary schools in Sept 2014 (she is currently doing okay in her prep school which only goes up to year 6).
I am a bit worried that we have left it a bit late though but we'll continue to work with her to prepare her around doing our day jobs. I have gained some fabulous insights from this site so far and for that I'm truly grateful.
Now that several of the indie entrance exams have been taken are there any of you willing to sell your DC's 11+ preparation books? I'd really like the ISEB books and hoping to get bundles that have worked for others so I can combine that with school work and the work she is doing with the tutor we have recently taken on.
School-wise I am particularly keen on NLCS or HABS. Proximity wise Heathfield would work better for us but I'm not so keen on that school. Any advise from parents of current students there would be very helpful.
I apologise if there is already a thread on this but the only one I found with a similar request was well old.

HI firstly you need to know your first and second choice schools and then work out what their criteria is, my son has currently sat three independent schools , but i concentrated totally with my first choice,
i say this as my daughter sat three years ago and i did too much prep for everything and this is very unfair on the child, once u know then you can get advise on correct books and tuitoring

Thanks for your response Son123, it's much appreciated. Our school choices are NLCS, Habs girls and St Helen's in that order. I totally get your point about not over-preparing and pressuring the child and I expect if she is prepared for the 1st choice school she'll probably be able to pass the other two. If possible I'd like to reduce costs on the prep material hence the request for relevant 2nd hand books for sale. If anyone has a child with no younger siblings and are willing to sell the books pls let me know.

I suggest you do all your posting in the Herts forum unless you are asking specifically about indy issues. In terms of prep you will need to look at Durham CEM for HBS but apart from that all your English and Maths prep will be the same for all three of your schools. The North London Consortium and HBS have the same requirements for English and Maths. Creative writing will be key. If you look at the threads on NLCS you will see that they place special focus on this as like me they believe that literacy is the key to everything! I would suggest you get a clear idea of where your dd is and how high the mountain is you need to climb. DG
