Godolphin & Latymer or Notting hill?

My DD is in the lucky position of having of having offers at both Notting Hill and Ealing High School and Godolphin & Latymer. We have always favoured Notting Hill, however it is further away. So is it worth going the extra distance? Or is Godolphin good enough to over-ride my initial instincts? If anyone has a DD at either of these schools could they help me make up my mind?

Hi Silver

Notting hill is a great school but if you live nearer Hammersmith I would stick with Godolphin and latymer. NH girls tend to live ealing/kew/richmond so if you don't want to have to go all that way I would avoid it. You don't want to spend all your weekends on the A4! But if you live in Notting Hill/ Chelsea then Godolphin is much better as all the girls live more centrally.

In my experience (3 children in different London independents) excellent schools like Notting Hill and Godolphin will draw their pupils from a wider area than you might think (precisely because they are so good) There are plenty of girls from Hammersmith, Chiswick and Shepherd's Bush at Notting Hill. I'd also say that at secondary school friendship is much less influenced by geography, than at say primary. Its more about what you're interested in eg doing drama, music or a certain sport will be what makes you friends.

If you still haven't decided give the school a ring, explain where you live and ask if there will be other girls with whom she can make the journey to/from in the early days. This might make you feel a bit more comfortable - it certainly helped me when we were choosing to know they wouldn't be doing it alone.
