Just wondering if the girls sit the exam in a large exam hall or whether they are sent to class rooms in smaller groups of about 20 or so.

Also does the invigilator let the girls know the time after 30 mins, after half time , with 10 minutes to go?

Finally, is there a clock that's easily visible in the hall/classroom

I believe it is in the hall. Dd's friend could not remember the rest - it was a few years ago.

thank you Kingfisher. DD does have a watch but prefers it if there is a clock on the wall. She'll just have to get used to checking her watch too.

Very wise. Students need to be managing their own time and not relying on the invigilators. But unfortunately there will be some sitting who have no idea of timing and will not leave enough time to do the creative writing which is 50% of the final marks. Timing is the most important feature of the exam. DG

really - would the invigilator not tell them to start the writing part of the exam. As it is 30 mins for writing isn't a huge amount of time.

On the instructions for the group 2 English past papers it does say that girls will be told when 10 minutes reading time is up, and 45 minutes of comprehension is up, indicating start time for writing.

If you have been explicitly told in your information material that the candidates will be told when to move onto the writing task then that is great. I would not rely on it though. Candidates should be keeping an eye on the clock and knowing themselves when to move. [Edited by moderator] DG

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the girls are given a booklet to write in for section B of the English exam or whether it's just lined paper? I've been telling my daughter to write her name and school on the lined paper we've been using because apparently there is another girl with the same name sitting the test at the same place so don't want scripts to get mixed up! (Sorry if it's a silly question).
