Invitation to music scholarship audition and prospect of an

Post by LostInTheShuffle »

A North London Consortium school states that an invitation to a music scholarship audition is dependent on passing its 11+ entrance exam. If a DD is then invited to a music audition, what is the prospect of her getting a place at the school (even if she is not awarded a music scholarship)? Many thanks.

Must be very high,if she has been through the usual interview as well.

Thanks, tiffinboys. Upon further reflection, I suppose it would also depend on the number of candidates invited to the interviews (as they would have also "passed" the entrance exam) relative to the total Y7 places available.

That is interesting.... We have applied to 3 schools in the consortium, one has given us an audition and we are still waiting to hear from the other two.

I am also aware that the number of girls invited to audition varies from one school to another (ranging from 8 to 25)

She'll only be auditioned if she has passed the test, so it is a good sign. And it gives her an additional chance to show what she has to offer the school - she will have another department indicating as to whether they want her or not (even if she doesn't ultimately get a scholarship, do not underestimate the influence of positive feedback from the audition to support her application, especially if she is playing a useful instrument).

All independent schools over offer. I posted a link yesterday which showed that 11+ the acceptance rate of offer for City of London School for Boys was 22-37% depending on the year. No idea as to the figures for the Girls school, but there will be a lot more offers than places.

So when should we expect to hear if we have an audition? Group 2 did the exam last Friday and Group 1 have the exam in a couple of days. It is rather tight given that the results will be out mid February. One of the schools in Group 2 has already offered an audition, this was sent out prior to the exam.

OK, sounds as if they're not all doing the same thing then? Usually it is around the same time as organising the academic interviews.

Thank you for your reply Ladymuck! I guess we just need to be patient then. It looks like even within the consortium each school has their own way of organising this.

All the best to all the DC, it is quite hard for our 10 & 11-year-olds as they have put years of effort into getting to the appropriate Grade to just to be able to apply

CLSG had too many acceptances last year and ended up having to create a 5th class. The building does not have capacity to repeat that too often so suspect they will be more cautious in the number of offers they make this year.
