Winchester caps applicants from schools in Asia for 2018

Does anybody have any idea the reason why Winchester have to announce these?
or have you seen similar admission rule from any other schools where refrain applicants from Asian countries?

"If you are making an application for a boy presently at a school in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand, Please note: we are not accepting any more applications for entry to the School in September 2018 from candidates who are currently at school in the Asian Region."

I read it as saying that they don't want any more from the area, they will already have the applications / registrations for that year and maybe there are already too many.

Yes...I think the title of this thread is deliberately inflammatory. It is not making a comment on Asian boys, it is making a comment on ANY boy currently at school in one of those regions in Asia. A different distinction.

It also refers to boys at school in those countries, not the nationality or ethnic background of the boy. From that, one would assume that the ruling would also apply to, say, a European boy currently attending an International School in the relevant area.

I've changed the title of the thread, as it was it didn't reflect the actual story.

Actually it should say "any MORE boys from schools in Asia in 2018" They have obviously had a lot apply already and feel they already have more than enough to choose from. DG
