Just curious as to why they get up so early? DS gets up at 7.15 to leave at 7.45 which is about right! When I used to work I was up showered and out the door in <= 20 mins...
Re: New year 7s
My son's school is about 4 train stops away and about 15 mins by car with no traffic.
It's great to be local to a school in terms of socialising - he's able to meet up with school friends ( not had many meet ups as only just started but useful over holidays to have your friends close by) and we've not had signs of any fatigue (yet).
It's lovely after eleven plus that he's doing 'normal' things children do without being bombarded with work and traveling.
Academics isn't everything when choosing a school.

Our children take after us! I cannot stand getting up, showered, dressed and out the door. I need time to adjust to a new day! We love to all be ready and dressed and then to have breakfast together. Usually it's a far more successful meal than dinner, with often three different 'courses' for the boys, Fishfingers, pancakes, cereal, porridge etc, and it's far more rewarding than feeding tired boys at 6.30 pm. Sadly I can't have three courses, just one of the above and lots of coffee for me!J50 wrote:Yamin151 wrote:One has an hour on the bus, gets up at 6.15 and leaves at 7.30, back at 5.10 or so.

Think I'd rather have the extra hour of sleep but it's horses for courses etc.

What's bizarre AML? That our breakfast together as a family is a positive and fun time, so we continue to enjoy it? I asked my boys this morning if they wanted to spend the extra time in bed and they strongly said they didn't. Many people are better in the morning than at night. I certainly am, and so are my children. We simply take advantage of that to have life enhancing family time. Isn't that what it's all about?
Stressing them out by making them feel rushed in the morning would be far worse. Even when we had them at a local primary they still got up at 6.30.

'My children are completely pooped...'
Re: New year 7s
They are but they wake that time anyway! The most valuable sleep is from going to bed earlier, but they won't go to sleep any earlier.
And my children may be tired (which is as much about all the stuff they do at school) but they are not stressed, which they would be if they had to leave the house half an hour after they got up with no nice family interaction other than passing like ships in the night, which for us is what it would end up being.
Judgemental

Don't feel the need justifying your family routine Yamin151, if it works for you and your family then that's all that counts!Yamin151 wrote:They are but they wake that time anyway! The most valuable sleep is from going to bed earlier, but they won't go to sleep any earlier.

I know 2 families where everyone is up and awake regardless of the time they have to leave and they have a variety of cooked breakfasts which really set them up for the day.
Unfortunately that's not us but I wish it was!

More bizarre are the fishfingers for breakfast! That's def a new one on me ...Yamin151 wrote:Our children take after us! I cannot stand getting up, showered, dressed and out the door.
