Should I inform the schools?

Good afternoon,
My child is due to sit entrance exams this coming week. Most recently we have had a couple of disturbances in the family - one being a death and another being a close family member having a long term illness and just this week undergoing a major operation. I am not looking to postpone the test and hope my child hasn't been too affected by it all but is it wise to just inform the schools? I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Yes do tell the school. Independent schools have much more flexibility in who they offer places to and it easier for them to take these things into account. Offer to provide evidence if required.
Has your child already had an interview? Have the school already asked the primary school for a reference? If so that will also help. If the primary school have noticed any issues, they could also mention if your child is performing below par.
