City Habs Boys Entrance Results Comparison

My son got a rejection from City yesterday and is a bit disappointed. I'm not exactly sure what went wrong. I know we took our foot off the accelerator after the Habs exam and let him relax a bit for the week in between the exams. He was a bit off on the morning of the exam and struggled on a couple of maths questions which he probably could have done better on on another day. However, he did think he pulled it back on the English.
Looking at his rankings from City and assuming approx 700 candidates,he seemed to be in top quarter for English, just lower than top third for Maths and top 40% for reasoning which obviously wasn't good enough for an interview.
He was certainly a lot happier after the Habs exam, especially the Maths and Reasoning and also enjoyed the Habs interview. I am just a bit worried now that given the City rankings, maybe he didn't rank as highly as he thought in the Habs exam which maybe reflected in the overall outcome.
Anyone else in a similar situation or have any knowledge of the comparison of entrance exam results or interview percentage between City and Habs?
As I mentioned, he may have just had a bad day for the City exam but this letter has left me a bit paranoid now for results day.

It is the policy of both Habs boys and girls to interview far more students than other schools.

They know that your exam papers are just a moment in time and there could well be much more to you than that.

They are prepared to invest a lot of resources into getting the right students so as long as your ds did well in the interview I don't think you have anything to worry about. Did you have other interviews? DG

Thanks for your reply.
We only applied to City and Habs from the Independents as those 2 stood out as the schools that it would potentially be worth paying the extra money for in our area. Although I'm sure the others may be good too, I wasn't convinced they were £16k/year "good" or suitable for him or us.
We are also holding out for QE boys but obviously no interview there.
I so hope something comes off for him as he is bright and worked so hard.
