What did you/the school do to prepare?

First of all, many congratulations for getting through the process of applying to independent schools. My daughter is currently in Year 5 and we have that joy still to come!

We have a meeting at school tomorrow to discuss how the children will be prepared for the exams. I was wondering if any of you would be kind enough to post details (or PM me if you prefer) on:

-What your child's school did to prepare them for the exams
-What you did to prepare them
-Whether you used a tutor to help

I'd like to be armed with as much info as possible before attending the meeting.

Thanks in advance for your help

Jess

Jess, you sent me a PM and I will PM you next week. I think you need to have idea of what you want for your DD. What schools are you planning to look at next term and is there one you are already keen on? Is she really clever ie. in the top 2 in most subjects in her class? Is she shy, outgoing, opinionated, artistic etc. This will indicate what your DD is likely to want for herself. I don't believe you can cram a child into a suitable school but you can certainly help them maximise their potential in an exam situation and help them to work towards whatever the goal is. Where is your daughter academically and in terms of maturity , do you agree with the school on this and is this proven by her current results at school. The schools do prepare them. I don't think a selective or non-selective prep school is relevant at this stage. The selective prep will always have higher entry to the highly academic schools, not because they are better at preparing them, but because they have selected the brightest at 7 or 8 and therefore they have a better strike rate. A non-slective schools exit results in a way are far more indicative of how well the school is preparing children for the exams. Don't know if any of this helps, hope it does, but it might help you start the process and will PM you anyway when we come back from a short well earned holiday!
