How much importance would grammar schools would put on the results of year 6 sats , would they be put into sets depending on the results or are they assessed at the begining of year 7.

Most GS in Bucks don't set in Y7 - I always note the KS2 mark and level and these are used by schools for target setting. Also these scores are used for value-added calculations e.g. by Ofsted.

Some posters seem to feel these can be ignored - they may choose to ignore them but I can assure you that they are of utmost interest to Ofsted etc!

My daughter's grammar school in Essex doesn't set at any point and I don't believe they pay any attention to SATS results.

KM - they HAVE to take note of the KS2 results - they will be judged on the progress their pupils make from the point of entry!

We (in Poole) sit 12+ and have to get at least two 5's and a 4 or they don't rate your chances!

Sorry Guest55 - I wasn't very clear. I meant that they didn't pay attention to SATs results in terms of setting the girls. Incidentally the have a very high proportion of girls from independent schools who don't do SATs but perhaps they use something else as a baseline for them.

Ok I see what you mean - with all the new measures of progress being KS2 to KS4 children with no KS2 levels are ignored in the analysis ....

My DS' school does not set at all in year 7 and uses the end of year 7 exams to set for year 8.
No mention has been made of SATS except for individual target setting for the boys in Maths,English and Science.

Guest 55-I meant to us as parents!!! We haven't had a parents evening yet so I only know that they were used from looking in my son's planner and seeing a target written in there
