Re: 2012 KS2 tests and level 6 tests
Hi G55
Hypothetically can parents say no to their children sitting the level 6 papers?
(Planning ahead as DS is in year 5 at the moment)

I don't see why not - the KS2 tests are statutory but I don't think the level 6 papers are.
I will try to find out for you -

Re: 2012 KS2 tests and level 6 tests
Did anyone find out whether the sitting of level 6 is compulsory. My DD was told earlier this week that she will sit level 6's - I don't really want her to, she doesn't want to - they are surely only of benefit to the primary school. Can I refuse to let her do them?
Re: 2012 KS2 tests and level 6 tests
They are optional tests so you can opt out - being absent is one way or say that they are too stressful as there are two more papers to sit (and that's just Maths).
Re: 2012 KS2 tests and level 6 tests
My son asked me last night to withdraw him from the level 6 tests... He doesn't feel prepared for them and quite simply doesn't want to take any more tests than he needs to. So on Monday I shall attempt to gain audience with the teacher in charge. Actually feel a bit nervous but will do it nevertheless. Wish me luck!

Re: 2012 KS2 tests and level 6 tests
My son came home from school this week and said he and one other child had done part of a level 6 maths paper. Does this mean the school are considering him doing a Level 6 paper? It makes no difference to him but I was not sure if he did spectacularly badly, whether this was recorded anywhere and would bite him on the backside some time in the future?
Re: 2012 KS2 tests and level 6 tests
I don't think it is recorded, but for my son the idea that he might 'fail' is something I think he is worrying about. At ten. Which isn't nice.

I'm livid this evening as we have had a letter from the school with hints and tips for revision for the SATs. Well that's just not going to happen in this house.

I share your lividity, and completely agree with your stance.scary mum wrote:I'm livid this evening as we have had a letter from the school with hints and tips for revision for the SATs. Well that's just not going to happen in this house.
