Yes I know people who used to teach huge classes like that. How did they fit you all in? Do regale us with some tales please!

Bigger classrooms I reckon!

Setted tables .... several kids with same names, 3 Susans, 3 Janes, 3 Pauls, 3 Catherines, .... you can tell what era that was  . went everywhere in a long crocodile and did lots of country dancing

Can't imagine how the teachers managed!

You mean you were setted by name? I think that could be rather effective. And how have classrooms shrunk since then?

   - no very firmly setted by ability - but maybe all the unimaginative parents called their kids by the same names  .. Don't remember being squashed in the classroom - quite comfy sitting on the book case!!

Thinking about the classroom sizes at my primary - after I left it became a 2 form entry infants only school and the juniors had a new school built up the road... probably able to do country dancing in the classrooms then.

Good job is wasn't by names Herman...you would have been rather lonely.

The naughty desk at my primary was a shelf at the back of the classroom...I used to love sitting there...lots of space to lay out your new Holly Hobby pencils...no annoying boys...the only problem was thinking up naughty things to get that coverted place !

My DD2 school has two forms of 37! sounds horrific I know, but in the morning the two forms are joined and then streamed into three groups of ability in separate classrooms. Therefore for their morning subjects of Maths and English there is an average of 24/25 pupils in each class, however I don't actually think they are equally split as they put less children in the lower ability group to give them more one on one attention. Also the higher ability group gets an English/ Maths specialist teacher for their lesson.
The system works really well.imo

And what do you think of the afternoons with 37? Presumably they have a spare classroom to be able to split two groups into three?
