4A and 4B is there a big difference

Post by Suesole »

Hi

My son got a level 4A in maths on finishing year 4 and a level 4B when finishing year 5. Is there a big difference in these and how far away is he from a level 5 ?

4B is lower than 4A - he seems to have gone backwards -

I would expect a 4A in Year 4 to go to a 5 in Y5 - you should talk to his teacher and try to find out how you can help him move forwards - PM me if you want to discuss further

on average, a 4a at end of year 4 should be a 5b a year on

"average" progression would be 2 sub levels a year. definitely go and discuss this with teh school

During yr5 a new headteacher joined the school. She stopped classes being steamed into ability (he was in the top maths group) as she wanted all children to have the same teacher for every lesson, My son's teacher left and he ended up with 3 part timers.... Could this have anything to do with it? Although at end of year 5 tests he got the top score in his class..

We have a parent's evening coming up so I will discuss this with his new year 6 teacher...Apparently Y6 will be streamed and he is in the top group.
