Well done! DS has taken part in maths challenges (junior, intermediate and senior) since year 7 and enjoyed the challenge. he has noted that it is also a tactical exercise as candidates lose marks in the later questions if they begin to get them wrong. He says that they need to make a judgement about whether they think they can tackle a question successfully, it isn't a case of just giving it all a go as with lots of other tests. He has a friend who is a real risk taker and is really good at maths but never does too well in the maths challenges and ds thinks it is because he takes risks with questions he isn't sure about. DS on the other hand is Mr Cautious! I know that DD was very disappointed that her school doesn't enter them until year 8 as she was hoping to beat her brother.
