My sons school have been extremely supporting of our appeal and have offered us his interim SATs papers taken last week. These are 2009 papers - he has achieved very high 4a in writing, 5c in reading and maths. Would it be worth taking these with us? With a two parts of a level movement by end of year 6, I think they demonstrate high achievement??

Yes, provided the above levels are clearly written on the papers, and signed by the teacher.

With only 4 months to go to the KS2 tests, current results should be on the level 5 borderline.
