Bishop Vesey not allocated

As everyone knows today is allocation day. My Nephew wasn't accepted for Bishop Vesey & we now face the daunting prospect of an appeal procedure. :( I think the 11+ results will be sent out today & only then will we know what to do next. He's a bright boy & has all 5s on recent tests etc so we're hoping his scores show he just fell short of one of BV's 124 places. As you can imagine we are gutted and I feel for the others who find themselves in a similar situation today. Take courage you are not alone. I'd be grateful for any support right now or any advice, thanx

Thanx for your message. Yesterday wasn't the outcome we were expecting & Nephew was quite upset at the prospect of his next choice of school being the awful Comprehensive. We've told him that he worked hard, is academic & we will support him in what he decides to do next. We do intend to appeal & I've now read what to expect on the forums. Thankyou once again for your help

Hi, My son lost out for Bishop Vesey by 1 point, he was really disappointed. It's a shame really because it was just one point.
I'm in two minds really wether it's worth appealing or not.

Hi Muryam

If you try apealing you will never know. and only one point...

I know that the KEGS in Birmingham rarely have any successful appeals - - I don't know about BV. The most succesful are those very close to the pass mark.

You would need good evidence of academic ability .

Read the FAQ and see what you think: http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/11plus ... nswers.php

BV Results

My Nephew's results were:
VR: 33/45
NVR: 34/40
M: 34/50 so overall 312 points after standardisation.
Is it worth appealing? He got all 5's in last years tests at school & he's online to get the same again this year. I'm sure the Head would back any attempt at an appeal as his marks are consistent. Also what are the first steps in the procedure?

Hi Bungeeful - there should be some info about how to register for an appeal in the paperwork you were sent. Also have a look at the links listed above as they tell you all about how to plan your appeal and what information is useful.

What score would your nephew have needed to get a place ?

We didn't receive an appeal form but I have found an address for requesting one & a phone number. These pages on appeal info have been a real help & I thankyou for that as without them I'd be drawing a blank. All new territory to me I'm afraid. Nephew would've needed 318. He has been predicted high level 5's in his Sats for this year. Wondered if that would carry any weight.

I'm not sure how appeals are succesful at 6 points below the cut off. We would need some local info on that!

Re the SATS predictions for level 5's - that is indeed useful info, but you will need other things to add to this -
The problem is that qute a large number of children now get 3 levels 5's - rather more than get into Grammar school.
