Congratulations Jane and Francis
Its fab news for you., and not taking anything away from you, but I find it strange how Ambridge whos case is similar to yours with quite high scores close to 121, and good academic evidence didnt get through the appeal. Are these panel members instructed to look for the same things or do some maybe have views on grammar schools not being the best sort of education, and so decide not to put them through the appeal.Something doesnt seem to add up, what do you Etienne, Sally ann etc think?

Dear DM

Each case, when examined in detail, is different.

The criteria are the same.

But panel members are fallible human beings .........

Dear DM

As Etienne says, appeal panels are human (albeit not necessarily humane - they can't be - there aren't enough school places to go round!). It is very likely that Jane & Francis' panel was differrent to Ambridge's panel, and the dynamics between the members worked differently, or that the evidence just seemed different to those three people.

As Jane & Francis said, their son's school report carried the day. One panel might see that as less important than the 11+ score and Head's report, another - as in J&F's case, could consider that it clinched the deal.

Sincere congratulations to you both J & F.
