Question for Etienne about KS1

Post by Nervous Mother »

Hi Etienne,

Do we need to include how our child scored in KS1 tests in our appeal presentation? Or should we only present it if the child has improved since then?

Thanks,

Nervous Mother

Include of it helps I would say - if level 3s in at least two subjects it's worth saying - ignore if not.

You need to emphasise the academic evidence for your child that supports your case ... I suspect the panel won't ask about KS1.

Dear Nervous Mother

I'd be inclined not to mention KS1 in your presentation. (I know I included it in the "Letter of Appeal for Mary" - it won't do any harm if the results were good, but I wouldn't want to over-emphasise it.)

A panel will not be very interested in what happened as far back as year 2. The KS1 results only really become relevant when parents say "We've had ongoing extenuating circumstances for the past three years". A panel might then be interested to see how the child was performing before all the problems started. Another reason for going back to the early years might be if there is a lack of recent evidence.

Regards
Etienne
