Wrong Grammar allocated

Hi, we just need some advice pls from anyone who has been through a similar situation. Our son recently passed his 11+ but with a lower score than expected. This gave him a Grammar school place but not at the school on top of his list. His academic performance has always been very good (now he's 5B with a very high reading age) but he was hospitalised due to an acute illness which meant he missed both original sittings of the 11+ papers.

This clearly brought his scores down as he was still clearly affected when he sat them 10 days later. The school strongly back him on academic achievement and we believe that there are strong extenuating circumstances as to why he did not achieve his normal levels.

The choice of schools is important for academic reasons, reasons of distance but also because many of his friends will be going to the 1st choice school. This is particularly important as our son need the support of his friends as he has long-term underlying health issues which requires good peer support.

We intend to appeal but were just interested to hear what others thought or of there was any specific advice.

I'd recommend as wide a range of academic evidence as possible.

Appeal panels tend to probe and test the arguments being put forward!
