Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone can help me.
My daughter passed her 11+ by appeal which we wer happy about. We are out of catchment for BGS (20 miles) and have not been allocated a place. I know this was touch and go but we have been offered a place at out local comp.
I wanted to know if anyone can advise if it is likely we can get a place and what is the best procedure. If we are too far then I can just give up now but if we are in with a chance then I will fight for a place. We do plan to move to the area but the offer we placed on a house fell through.
I have logged into my online account with hillingdon council but there is no information about going on waiting lists or about appeals. Also I rang Bucks CC and they advised to speak to Hillingdon council but I rang hillingdon and they said speak to Bucks CC. Noboby seems to know who is best to speak to. I emailed the school so will wait to see what they have to say. I need to put her name on the waiting list but also put in for an oversubscription appeal.
If I have missed any advice already on the website then apolgies but I have been reading around to find the information I need.
Any advice would be most welcome and very much appreciated.
I also would like to say many thanks to the volanteers who take out time to help parents like us. It is very refreshing and kind thing to do.

The first round allocation for Burnham is quite a long way out, at 13.509 miles and, based on past years it could well go to All Offered in the coming months.

Call Bucks CC Admissions and ask for an appeal form and return it to them. Your daughter's name will then be put on the waiting list and you can also go ahead with appealing if you wish. Appeals are unlikely to take place until June, so there is time for further rounds of allocations to deliver a place.

The school will definitely refer you back to Bucks CC. There has been rather too much confusion this year over waiting lists, with a lot of people being shunted back and forth between their own LA and Bucks.

I am afraid you have rather a wait for that - the next round of allocations is on April 20th, and waiting list positions will be posted to parents on April 27th.

Let's hope that April 20th delivers a place!

I am writing my Bucks appeal letter for oversubscription and am getting really stuck.
I am writing something on the lines of
I am appealing on behalf of my daughter ****
She has been offered ***
We would like ... and then do I specify the school I want or do I just say ... I would like to appeal for BGS because..
I cant think of many reasons apart from her excellence in maths and science.
Would this be enought evidence ??
We live just over 19miles from the school and are on the waiting list but this is our only chance for our daugher so we will give it our best shot.
Any help would be appreciated...

Would this be enought evidence ??

Only your particular appeal panel can answer that.

What I mean is that it is the evidence of her excellence in maths and science that will really count, not what you write.

For example, you could provide the latest available school report showing excellent progress in maths and science, letter of support from current school mentioning maths and science, and anything else proving her ability or interest in these subjects.

Do I reference the school name in my appeal letter?

If there's no form, and it's just a letter, you ought to state somewhere which school you're appealing for.

I've just written on another thread about Dejavu. Some years ago she put together a strong case on the basis of particular subjects, and I don't think anyone would have doubted that there was real substance to it:

SHF has specialist science status. DD excels in maths and has a passion for science. She has always wanted to be a vet, and to realise these ambitions she would need to attain the very highest grades in sciences and maths. Appendices included letter from her Science Club teacher, marked SATS papers showing high levels for science and maths which DD had brought home from school (as current school would not provide up-to-date info about DD’s grades to support the appeal) – all the more remarkable as SATS are not age standardised and DD was late August born, Gifted and talented for maths, article from local press when interviewed about her high achievements in dog showing (long time interest in animals) in which it said in print “she has ambitions to be a vet”.
