Should we appeal? (Bucks)

Post by stressedout1975 »

Hi,

Please help! (sent email to appealbox)

My DD got a score of 108 and 102 for the bucks test. She was devastated with the results, as she was scoring 73-76 on mock papers. She is predicted Level 5's for literacy and maths.

She was diagnosed with a skin condition aged 3. Since the age of 3 she has incurred many treatments in London and abroad. Over the years she has become overwhelmed by low self esteem and lack of confidence. She has experienced being teased and bullied by adults and children. She finds it difficult to deal with her emotions and found the day of the test very emotional.

She currently attends a school and is happy, but as soon as we mention the local comprehensive she gets very distressed. Recently she visited the local comprehensive with her primary school and experienced undue attention from people's whispering comments, but when we visited the local gs, she came away feeling calm and excited. Its very rare that in new surroundings she feels comfortable, but on this occasion she did. Since then she has had her heart set on a gs school, purely because of the acceptance she felt from the children.

Should we bother appealing

Many Thanks,
stressedout1975

Very sorry indeed to hear everything your DD has been through, but an appeal with those scores will be difficult.

While extenuating circumstances will be taken into account, the main focus for any appeal has to be academic evidence - and the lower the 11+ scores, the more compelling that evidence would have to be.

Level 5 covers a wide range from 5c to 5a. The higher the prediction, the better.

Have you seen the list of academic evidence suggested here?

Thanks Etienne!
I think the emotions have taken over. As a parent just trying to resolve everything, but sometimes it's just out of your hands.
