Bucks 11+ Appeal

Hi All,

I have read a lot of useful info on this site but require some clarification and help.

I would rather do an appeal rather than a review due to timescales. I would never get the information required in 14 days.

The Head Teacher and bucks CC tell me I have to do a review first. I have read this is incorrect, please could someone clarify?

If this is the case would it be worth doing the review with no evidence and just going throgh the motions?

Also what is the timescales to apply for the appeal?

Do I just send a letter with evidence or are there any forms?

Thanks all for the help.

Welcome! :)

We've discussed the pros and cons of reviews/appeals on here, and stated our view that the statutory right of appeal is not something that can taken away.

With regard to what parents should do, we cannot go beyond our general advice:
Many parents will be anxiously wondering whether they should focus their efforts on a review or an appeal. There is no easy answer to this. All we can say is "Think very carefully - be aware that if you opt for a review, the scope of any subsequent appeal to an independent panel could be severely limited".
The Head Teacher and bucks CC tell me I have to do a review first.
Although parents are undoubtedly being told this verbally, nowhere is it clearly stated in writing.

If you too are being told that a review is an obligatory prerequisite for an appeal, our advice is that you insist on this being put in writing. (If you are resident in Bucks, you could try asking your county councillor urgently for written confirmation.)
Also what is the timescales to apply for the appeal?

Etienne,

Many thanks for your help.

I intend to phone Bucks CC again tomorrow to clarify the point on appeals.

Good luck!
There seems to be a reluctance to put anything in writing - or to point to anywhere in either the determined admission arrangements, or the headteachers' manual, or the BCC website (admissions), or the BCC website (appeals), or BCC's Secondary Guide for parents, where it clearly states: "You must first go through a review"!
