Independent Review Papers contain wrong information

As my Son did not pass his 11+ in Medway. We opted for the review. This was completed on my behalf by the school as I was out of the country at the time.

The review was turned down and when the paperwork has come back with the decision the overall comments box was not completed and never got copy of the r2 side of the paper. ( not sure if this is normally provided with the result of review?)

I requested an appeal, the paperwork from them clearly states my sons scores, and underneath "review not carried out"
It clearly was as they have provided copies of the r1 and r2 in the pack.

Also I have noted, (my Son pointed this out to me) that the r2 information where it has been completed with standardised score and levels for English and maths, these are showing the levels he has just obtained in March 2014, yet the form is signed and dated 14.10.13. These cannot possibly be the scores from then and I have copies of his school consultations prior to this? So do I assume that this has been filled in after March and were never considered during the review process back in October 2013? So they must have been blank at the time of review!

Would just like some advice how to proceed as I will have to suggest the review was not carried out fairly etc, with this incorrect information provided within the independent appeal paper work how would that fit in to my case?

Also they have quoted the wrong pass mark for this year, it is much lower ( so it must be an older years pass mark?)

Welcome! :)

If they've made those mistakes, I would ask how this process could possibly be judged to be fair.

Have a look at this Bucks thread on reviews (scroll down to section D):
http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum/ ... 12&t=36418" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not all of it will apply to Medway, but some of it will.
For example, the following might:
D1
D2
D3
D4 (i)
D4 (ii)

D4 (viii)

Was there a moderating process? If so:
D4 (ix)
If not, how can they prove that the decisions were consistent?

D4 (x)

I think that their crucial evidence ought to be the clerk's notes, because this is the only thing that can show how the review process was applied to your particular case (and whether it was 'fair, consistent & objective').

Ask if what you've been given are the clerk's original notes. Were they contemporaneous or written up at a later time?

Many thanks, I did put some similar suggestions in an overview when putting my letter forward to request an appeal, but not all of these points.

I am really new to this, we have to submit further evidence before the actual appeal date as I am sure you will know. Do I request this information regarding the clerk when submitting my further evidence to the appeal panel? would this be sent to me prior appeal date?

All I have received back from the appeal admin is a date for the appeal, the letter with overview of my son which is wrong in places!, the R1 & R2, transfer to secondary school request, the what happens next guide and an overview from the Head of the school I am appealing a place for.

Thank you :)

Well, I think it's in your interests not to ask for anything in advance.

In my view, if they don't provide the evidence, they haven't made their case for FCO.

Look again at D1 and D3:
http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum/ ... 12&t=36418" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

All you need do is ask a few pointed questions at the hearing such as "Don't all these mistakes cast doubt on the reliability of the process?"

The reason I think contemporaneous notes are important is that in Bucks last year the notes were written up by a clerk later on. All sorts of mistakes were subsequently reported on the forum - e.g. the child was given the wrong sex!
How is anyone to know whether a mistake was just a typo, or whether they'd got the wrong child?

Even if they do provide contemporaneous notes, I think those notes have got to show that the process in your case was applied fairly, consistently and objectively - and that's no easy thing to prove.

By the way, do they use the term "independent review", or is that your wording?
See:
http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/appeal ... cation#b18" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"an appeal panel is independent – a review is an internal admission authority procedure, and arguably not independent."

Thankyou... So shall I not send in any further evidence also?
I have school reports and parent consultation papers which show levels achieved and dates to confirm what I was saying regarding the levels / scores entered on on the r2 form.
The letter giving me my made states at the top the Admin admin name and underneath independent appeal administrator.
Then further down independent appeal for ...... At cgsb.

Academic evidence - yes, send it in, because that's your evidence.
'Fair, consistent & objective' - I don't think so, because it should be up to the other side to produce their evidence for that.

Not sure I follow this. :?
My question was about the wording in your topic title: "Independent Review Papers contain wrong information". Is that your wording, or is the school/LA claiming that their review is "independent"?

Sorry for confusing you.

When I get the letter back from CGSB the cover sheet for their guidance for parents carers 2014/15 sates "independent Education appeals"

The letter from the Admin Clerk for their appeal team giving the time and date of our hearing this June ~ sates that her title is Independent Appeal Administrator and the second line of this letter quotes "Independent Appeal for ..... at CGSB"

So I presume that they are claiming to be independent??

I hope this is clearer! :?

I hope this is clearer!
Sorry - not yet!
I understand that appeals are independent.

What I'm trying to understand is where the phrase "independent review" has come from .......

OK - Thanks, no problem! :)

Just wanted to check whether you were receiving anything officially with the words "independent review".
