Can anyone tell me how much weight the Appeal Panel puts on the Head Teacher's ranking?

Panels do like to see a "1" or a "2" recommendation for academic potential (i.e. predicted score 121-141).

The actual position on the Bucks order of suitability could be high or not so high, depending on the number of pupils and academic ability of the year. What matters is that, if the head has done a good job, and one looks at the top end of the list, one would expect to see a batch of pupils, most of whom have qualified. Ideally your child should be within that batch or immediately below.

The order of suitability ought to carry a great deal of weight, but it all depends how accurate the headteacher has been. If heads give a "1" or a "2" recommendation to three or four times the number of pupils who actually qualify, it does raise questions about whether they are over-optimistic in their judgements.
