In that case I agree with Guest55. It suggests your daughter's result (and the other child's) could well be regarded as "blips".

Our appeal is not until Feb 8th. I requested a letter from the class teachers and have received it today. It states that they fully support her and recommend her for Grammer school, but I am worried that they have put that she will be approaching a level 5 in English and Science by the end of the summer term. (On the headteachers appeal form he had put she was expected to gain level 5). Numeracy is her strong point and they have stated that she is already 'a sound level 5'. As I have said in previous posts she gained 119 on both papers. She is in a gifted and talented maths group and the head fully supports the appeal.

Do you think that the letter from the class teachers will cause a problem? Should I ask why they have put 'approaching a level 5' or ask them to change the letter and leave that point out?

Thank you

Dear Hope

Yes, I think the letter would undermine the head's level 5 predictions. The panel are bound to spot this.

Is there evidence already of your daughter's ability in Maths? If so, you probably don't need the letter.

You could try seeing whether the class teachers would be willing to change it (either by amending the KS2 predictions or by focusing just on Maths). The worst they can do is say "No" - at which point you could take the decision not to use the letter.

Thank you Etienne.

I have spoken to the class teacher who is happy to change the letter, I don't think she really thought about the wording. I have also got evidence for the maths ability which I included in my original appeal evidence.

(Sorry. I had set this out in a nice table but it has distorted when submitted and is more difficult to read than I had hoped)

My interpretation of this is that the OoS is pretty accurate. Of those ranked 1 87% passed and those ranked 2 85% passed ( I hope I am right with that)

any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you

Dear Hope

This is a really good OoS. The "1"s are above average for accuracy (87%), but what is extraordinary is that the "2"s are also over 80% accurate (the average being around 42%).

19th position is only the second "gap" in a very accurate list.

A panel has only to glance at this OoS to see that your child is very well-placed!

Hi everyone

Just back from appeal, relieved it is all over, just a wait for the letter now.

As others have said it was not a scary as I thought it would be, the panel seemed to have read the paperwork. I presented the key points and then they asked a couple of questions, specifically about our case. Probably only one question from each panel member! I have come away not really getting a feeling either way and wondering if I have done my daughter justice. Anyway all done now so I am hoping to sleep tonight!

Hi Hope

I have just read all your postings on this section and wanted to wish you and your dd the very best of luck. It certainly seems like you have a very good case. It must be awful waiting, but hang on in there no news is good news and all that.

Everything crossed
