CAT exam for 11 plus students

Post by twindad »

Can anyone suggest me how I can help my DC to get a CAT score. Whether this exam can be taken any time in the year.

Only schools have access to these; does your child's school use them?

Thank Guest55, The school does not do it. I am thinking to take up this exam so that I can put forward to appeal panel for considering him eligible for admission in a Grammar school. My child has got good marks above 350 in SET kent test, but has marginally disqualified in English.

Sorry the only way is through your child's school. You could consider an Ed Psych report instead but that is not cheap.

Hi twindad,

You could present a report from your school with predicted grades for English. Do you know how he's doing at school in English? I know there are no levels now, but the school must be measuring their progress somehow.
How many marks did he miss out for?

I had got enough evidence to prove against non-qualification in English, so finally I didn't take any psychological report.
My appeal hearing was on last Thursday. I was satisfied by my presentation and thought that panel members are convinced. There were some bizzare questions from Principal of Grammar School. It had baffled me a bit, like cross examining my evidences and proving that it is not presenting facts. Principal was reluctant to get someone who has not qualified in English , overseeing the high marks obtained in other papers.
finally , I got appeal decision today. unfortunately my DC's case is not successful.
Anyway, I am thankful to the valuable advices given by members of this forum.
