Hello there,

My daughter scored 119 and 118. She is very highly recommended and is extremely able and definitely suitable for a grammar school education per the headteachers appeal summary sheet.

Her(our) appeal is next week I was just wondering what, if anything, to say about the OoS. As you can see below the accuracy up to number 27 is brilliant. 24 out of 27 passed. The 3 who didn't were very close to passing.

Numbers 28 to 39 didn't pass when they were predicted as a 2. My preference is to say my daughter was number 28 on the OoS with 24 out of the 27 above her having passed.

What would you advise?

It would be interesting if you could add the scores - how good was the HT at predicting the '1's - did they get over 130?

The only available statistics for the OoS are those published by Sally-Anne:
For children ranked as a "1" on the OoS (i.e. predicted to score 131-141), 78% actually achieved the qualifying mark of 121+.
For children ranked as a "2" (predicted to score 121- 130) the actual success rate was 43%.

On this basis, the headteacher is above average with the 1s (85%), not quite so good with the 2s (33%).

Although the head has been a bit over-optimistic with the 2s, all the qualifiers are lined up at the top, which is remarkable. I think a panel would note that Riley's daughter is very well-situated at the first gap in the list of 2s.

I would be inclined to say: "Drawing up an OoS must be a very difficult task. I think the accuracy up to number 27 is brilliant. 24 out of 27 passed, and the 3 who didn't were very close to passing. My daughter is right on the borderline at no. 28."
