I a have few questions on my mind, but before that let me brief you regarding my case my daughter sat the 11+ plus exam as late candidate in Feb06 because we moved to kent in Feb06 because of my job. Unfortunately she got 1 mark less in maths than the required score for this year and she has got the required marks in both V & NV. She was denied Headteachers appeal on the grounds that she was a late aplicant. We have appealed but the earliest dates being given are by the end of july. The questions on our mind are, firstly what are our chances of getting through the appeal, second we are also conserned that even if our appeal is upheld what if we are denied on the grounds that by the time our appeal gets through all the places are fiiled up in all the 3 grammer we requested for. Kindly advise me as you have much more experience in this matter.

Dear Kumarvel

If you haven't already done so, go to the Home page of this website (there should be an icon at top of this page) and have a look at "11+ appeals". There are a number of entries on selection appeals.

Your chances of success depend entirely on the strength of your case. The fact that your daughter missed by such a narrow margin suggests that she is academically able, so I hope you will be able to gather lots of convincing evidence of her ability. You will need some extenuating circumstances (the disruption of the move may help here - not usually a strong argument, unless you can prove how upset she was, but this may not matter when the score was so close).

As to whether there will be places available in the event of a successful appeal, I'm afraid I do not know your area well enough to advise. It may be necessary to appeal for a place at an oversubscribed school. (Have a look at "transfer appeals" in the 11+ appeals section.)

Good luck
