DARTFORD GIRLS GRAMMAR APPEAL DATES??
Hi,
just wondering if anyone has had any news on the appeal dates at Dartford Girls Grammar yet??
I have had a date for another appeal (1st May), but just had confirmation that i was appealing at DGG and that everything had been sent to LEA.
Starting to worry now!!
Any updates would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help, but do bare in mind that us panel members are volunteers. It must be a nightmare for the clerk to find common available dates for my panel members - I have to book leave from work (bang goes a few days of holiday allowance), and it can't be on days where I need to leave early to go off to a festival, just in case they overrun. We're looking at some dates in June as we couldn't find any common dates in May.
How they cope with a 5 member panel - I have no idea!

Hi Capers123
Thanks for your reply.
I have actually been to an appeal meeting for parents this evening and found out that Dartford Girls Grammar are not holding their appeals until JUNE!! which now means if people are appealing to more than one school they could actually then turn down a place if both appeals are successful, which in turn would mean that there will then be spaces again that will be unfilled. This seems so unfair, and I feel that if you are offered a place at one school on appeal you should not then be able to appeal to a different school. Are there any rules with regards this and do the panel know if you are appealing to other schools??
I am appealing to two schools, and my first appeal is for my 1st choice and my preferred school. I will know if i am successful by 23rd May, which means I will not appeal to Dartford in June.

My panel certainly doesn't know if the parents are appealing elsewhere. Likewise, we don't know if they are being offered scholarship places at private schools; I've found out from other parents after the appeals have taken place that children have turned down the place after we'd allowed their appeal because of a private school offer!mumsy wrote:Hi Capers123

The reason that there are no rules on 'only allowing one successful appeal per child' is that how would the appeal for the favourite school be always heard first? The only way round it would be for one panel to hear all the appeals for each child. That would mean that the same panel would have to hear all the appeals for the whole county - and then what about children from neighbouring LEAs?
The best thing to do is hope that a 'two appeal child's first appeal is heard early, they get the result and drop the second appeal.
It's not a perfect system, and there will always be people who might get a different result if the system is tweaked another way - but then someone else would loose out!

Just to let you know - I have had a call from LEA (Maidstone County Hall) this morning, regarding appeal dates for Dartford Girls Grammar, and and was given a choice of appeal dates -they are apparently running from 25th June to 2nd July. Hope that helps anyone that is still waiting!!
THE WAIT GOES ON!!!
