People: Very nice ones :D (But I would say that, wouldn't I).

Should be three (or very occasionally 5) people. A trainee can attend, but takes no part in the proceedings.

Occupations. Well, I seem to work on Club Penguin most of the time at the moment. Or so you'd think. Seriously, though, it must contain at least one 'Educationalist' - a current or (more likely) former teacher, governor or maybe even a parent of a child in another school, and at least one 'Lay-person' - as in not an educationalist. None must have any connection to the school that you're appealing for.

I try to be friendly and polite to all parties concerned, but it's suggested that we have 'poker' faces to 'give nothing away' to either party. We listen with sympathy to your side of the appeal and also with sympathy to the other side, but are aware that you've not been through this before whereas the other side probably has - that said, it has to be everyones first appeal once, including the LEA/school staff.

We can be any age, although it's not uncommon to have a retired person, especially a retired teacher. The rest of us have to take annual leave from work, and don't get paid by the LEA/School (apart from travelling expenses).

Our motivation: to see justice done properly and fairly to all parties concerned. We do get the docs to read in advance, but until we've heard both sides, we don't make a decision.

Any more questions, please ask - nothing is too small or silly to ask.

Hope it goes well.
