Does anyone have any experience of finding an authority or governing body have not followed their over-subscription criteria fairly and appealed against it?

No, but I think that you have to be able to show that they have not followed the policy correctly, and that if they had, your child would have got a place. Is this the case?

There are instances every year where mistakes have been made, and the admission authority concedes (offers a place above PAN) or an appeals panel upholds the parents' case.

However, Perplexed hits the nail on the head: it's not enough that a mistake has been made - you have to have been deprived of a place to which you would otherwise have been entitled.

If something has gone wrong, the authority may need to check what has happened with other pupils as well, after which you might still be below the cut-off point.
