Hi

Can anyone tell me whether there are similarities between the format of an appeal in Buckinghamshire and one in Slough?

I have been following the threads in this appeals section very closely as we have an appeal looming for a slough grammar although not until April, and I really can't find out too much elsewhere about the process in Slough.

Thank you

LFH

Dear LFH
From the Q&As:
Quote:
A1. Introduction
The School Standards & Framework Act 1998 gives parents a statutory right of appeal against any decision made by or on behalf of the admission authority. All appeals are basically the same in that they must conform with the law and Code of Practice. The main differences are (1) how strict the panel is [success rates vary enormously], and (2) how the appeals are organised [e.g. whether non-qualification is being dealt with separately, or forms part of an appeal for an oversubscribed school – See E27 ].

I do sympathise with you though - from what I've read, SG do not seem to be making their arrangements very clear.

The Chief Adjudicator wrote recently:
Quote:
aided and foundation schools should be persuaded to use appeals tribunals run by local authorities, diocese or private companies and should not attempt to negotiate the complexity of running their own tribunals

Not much comfort to you, I know.

Nether the consortium of SG are transparent in their appeals and recently Herschel was taken to task over its handling of appeals.
All appeals follow the same format..... but.....
It seems that the appeals in Slough are held after the March allocation date so could be looking at non-qualification and oversubscription at the same time.
