Max score in Warwickshire?

Post by naknat »

Does anybody know the max score in Warks , as it will be much easier to calculate required %, rather than mythical "numbers"?
thanks!

The warks scores are the sum of age standardised score so you percentages don't apply.

As this exam is age standardied in a similar way to B/Ham until 2 years ago, the max score is likely to be similar.

For KEFW a few years ago the max score was 443 - tends to be about the same year on year - but a bit meaningless

Yes, I know about age standardised score, but it is still much easier to calculate if you know the max number. At least it helps to know if a child needs to get 70% or 90% on the exam day.
I was told 483 for the last year, you say 443 which is roughly the same.
That means, if a qualifying score is 333 and max 443, a child needs 75% to get in, right?

No. One each of the three elements a score of 100 will represent the mean (average) score of the cohort who took the test.

In the 2012 exam the average raw scores were
Verbal Reasoning (which isn't traditional CR - it's more English) = 56/111
Numerical Reasoning = 10/42
Non Verbal Reasoning = 18/32

i.e. for numerical reasoning the average score was only 23%

Those aren't unusual either - the other year I have raw scores for was 2010 (when the exam was 2 months later)
Verbal Reasoning = 44/98
Numerical Reasoning = 18/51
Non Verbal Reasoning = 21/41

Those average marks would have got a child from the middle of the age range a standardised score of 100 on each section - 300 overall. Offers this year for Rugby High were made to candidates scoring 300.

As a rule of thumb around 60%-65% would get probably a place at most of the Warwickshire grammars - but as you have no way of knowing how the difficulty of what you are practicing compares to that of the real test, saying you are scoring x% on practice material really doesn't mean anything - except possibly that if you are scoring much higher than this then your practice material may be too easy.

Have a look here for a description of how standardised scoring works.
