Warks/B'ham shared results & Rankings

Trying to make sense of the Warks rankings and how they are effected by those shared with B'ham.

Am I right in Assuming that the 2847 children in Warks ( and more specifically 1229 in South Warks) include DC's from B'ham that shared their results?

If so - just wondering how many of these will still choose a B'ham GS? If there are quite a few, presumably this will effect the rankings quite a bit!? Or have I got this wrong?

First timer here trying to make sense of everything and manage DS's expectations for March ***

I think that 2847 relates to all children who requested Warwickshire results and I think there will be a lot of Bham people in that figure.

These are seasoned 11+ people who know how the system works and like the fact that Warks give out such detailed info. They won't be considering a warks school, but just want a more detailed explanation of their DC scores. (On the Brum forum 2 of the posting regulars did this purely for the extra info, neither are in the Warks priority area and are choosing Bham schools)

There will probably be a small amount, like ourselves, who had to register through Warks, but a Bham school is our first choice. No way of knowing these figures though)

Only 2200 actually registered with Warks to take the test. May not mean much, but could indicate that there are 600+ out of area.

As per my other post, if I can get more details from Eastern parents I may be able to she'd a little light on it!

My understanding is that the rank scores for the southern area will only include any Birmingham child who falls in the Southern priority circle. In the past, there were two tests, so Birmingham children who live in the Southern Priority circle would sit Warks 11+ separately and get a rank score through Warks. This time it is one test, so their score has been shared with Warks to get a rank score so that they can be considered for a place.

The reality is there may be a few B'ham candidates who are sharing this time (to get the additional information that WCC provides) who may not be considering a place in a Warks school, but the numbers overall (the 1229 has gone up slightly from last year, but in line with a year on year increase) do not indicate that this is significant.

Those children that in the past sat two separate papers, have now only sat one - some will still choose a B'ham school over a Warks one, some may be tempted to choose a Warks one over a B'ham one...I don't see that there will be any difference to the overall movement in that sense - the real difference has been to the kids only having to sit one paper, not two.

Sorry - that doesn't help you pull your rank up any - my advice would be, big up your alternatives to your son. Make sure your CAF is completed in your TRUE preference order (with at least one realistic school option on it, e.g. your local state school) and keep your fingers crossed for the waiting list, if you do not get offered your preference in March.

Hoping for AGS .... We've actually put KES down first, but we know that is highly unlikely, then AGS, then Arden our preferred comp, and then lastly the school he is in catchment for....

How about you?

DS took test in Birmingham but we asked to share results with Warwickshire. We live in Solihull, clearly within the Warwickshire Southern Priority Circle, but our results letter indicated "Out of Area". I phoned the admissions office at the council who said that we should be in the Southern area and that they would reissue the letter. I guess that means that the number of Southern and Out of Area DCs on the original letter was incorrect, although maybe only by 1. ☺
