(I hope this makes sense!!)dogman wrote:Still struggling to work this out but DS scored 215.
The letter says 469 All Boys Rank (24 same rank), 216 Boys in Southern Circle (10 same rank) and 409 All Children Southern Circle (15 same rank).
Based on last year's numbers it looks like he wont qualify for any of the Southern Circle schools so I'm completely confused as to what to try for as we are in the Southern Circle but outside the Eastern Circle.
Any suggestions?
If the are 24 equal on rank 469 all scoring 215 then all those scoring 214 will be ranked 493. Say there were 4 ranked equal scoring 216 then they would have ranked at 465

I love a gamble... I'd have a punt at an AQS of 234 for KES this year (hoping for lower!!!), based on 105th ranked offer last year in first round, but an absolute guess. 234 is ranked 104th this year... 233 ranks 108th. But how long is a piece of string?
Can I have £20 on the AQS for AGS to drop a few points to 214 (ish)
Oh this is interesting! Why do you think the AQS for AGS will drop this year? I'm new to all this and fascinated by how more experienced parents are working this stuff out.
Logic being.....
Looking at last year the AGS AQS was 217 and; waiting list 212+
If you look through last years results that were posted you can see that someone who scored 219 finished 428th in all Southern and got an offer with a few points to spare. The corresponding rank for the 217 AQS was around the 450th-460th mark.
This year we know that 215 points ranks equal 409th so all other things being equal the AQS should come down. If the same ranking gets in this year as did last year the AQS would be around 212.
However, there has been some speculation that the reduced number of applicants sitting this year may be down to a reduction in the number of Birmingham kids who are sharing results and never had any intention of attending a Warwickshire school. So the proportion of applicants not taking a place may reduce a little. With that in mind I split the difference and stuck my £20 on 214
I'm sure other opinions are available though!
I do rather like the sound of your projections Wonky...(but then with DS on 215, I'm bound to aren't I?! )

Re: 2016 Results / 2017 Entry: Warwickshire
Does anybody know how many 'late entrants' end up getting places as I guess these and house moves to the area are the only things that can push rankings down.
I heard a rumour that they take the same paper! Surely that can't be correct?

Yes, the same paper is used up until August which is why you should never discuss test content on here. And late sitters will be added to the waiting list, they would not be offered places in round one in March.

Thanks @JamesDean,
I can see the same test helps standardise the results but surely that's too insecure. Especially if a late sitter has a 'tutor' that has received feedback from those that have taken the test already, or if a late taker family is very good friends with an already taken family; especially if competition isn't there due to a certain result either way or gender or school preference.
A difficult one For sure.

Any more updates on this thread re choices??Chuggabug wrote:Got to get out more... have collated some scores/rankings from friends and forum (and working out in between) that might be useful to others (sorry, southern boys only - seem to be far less DDs active on the forums this year). Re: 2016 Results / 2017 Entry: Warwickshire
Does anyone know when KES and AGS actually publish their 'actual qualifying scores' for September 2017 entry? I've heard these are published in January 2017 ahead of the offers being made available on 1st March, but I cannot find any information anywhere.
Can anyone enlighten me?
Thank you

The AQS letter was sent at the same time as the offer letter when DS took the test. It was uploaded to the WCC website in March last year, I believe. I don't think the info is given out any sooner than that.

Thank you JamesDean. The AQS scores that were sent with the results back in October were the AQS scores for 2016 entry and were to be used a a "guide" only for 2017 applications. I know that the schools do publish their actual 2017 AQS's in January of each year for the following September entry but was just wondering if anyone knew which actual date they were published?JamesDean wrote:The AQS letter was sent at the same time as the offer letter when DS took the test. Interesting Satsuma - in the 6 years I have been closely watching 11+ in this area, I have never heard this and certainly never seen anything published about the AQS's before the allocations letters are sent out at the beginning of March.Satsuma wrote:Thank you JamesDean. worandrew...the other thing that can alter the rankings in a downwards direction after March 1st is a) late entrants to the test b) late applicants who moved house to the area during the year and c) late applicants to the process who have decided that they want to change their school preference since they put in their CAF. They are all marked as "late" but might be from the different categories iyswim?
