Ashlawn MFL results

Post by relaxedabout11+ »

Hi there

We received my sons MFL results today, and wondered whether anyone can help? He scored 432, with a ranking of 92 percentile. PAN for aptitude test was 25 in 2015 (AQS 414).

We are in the Eastern inner priority circle, but well outside of catchment for Ashlawn and it's his first choice school. This is the only way that he could get a place, as 11+ score doesn't meet AQS or ranking for grammars. Looking at these scores does he stand a reasonable chance of getting in? I haven't mentioned the results to him as I don't want to disappoint him. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

That is a great score and I think you can be confident he will get a place. I believe you have to put Ashlawn and not Ashlawn Selective on your CAF if you are hoping to get in on MFL.

You've done better than ds. 418 is 71st percentile which I imagine won't help him get a place.

I'm confused by this. Do we hear more?

My son had 426 which is 85th percentile.

We are still undecided between Ashlawn and Sheriff but he'll take one of the selective places if we choose Ashlawn.

36 selective places
25 non-selective places based on MFL

195 non-selective placed from catchment?

Is that about right?

Looks like Harris for us unless circumstances change.

Thanks guest201, I wasn't sure that I was reading the information correctly but was hopeful that it was good.

I spoke to the school this morning, who also confirmed that it was a very good score. I asked whether they would advise applying on this basis - which they are unable to do (understandably). They did confirm that the lowest offer they made last year was 414, and that my assumption that a proportion of the higher scoring children will have also qualified via 11+ was a reasonable one to make.

ginx, I would call the school, it sounds as though there may definitely be a chance for you with a score of 418.

I should add that we are astonishingly proud of him. He loved Ashlawn, but I had almost discounted it because it has such few places that we could possibly qualify for. We were completely happy with the alternative, but this has made him so happy :)

My DS also took the MFL, he scored 427 and is in the 86th percentile. I also just called Ashlawn school, and they said he is in with a good chance of getting into the non-selective, as the lowest score that Ashlawn allowed in last year was 414.

I think you have to wait until March 1st. But is worth calling up the school to check for advice, their number is on the MFL results letter.

hi

relaxed about 11+

I rang Ashlawn. They can't help me regarding ds' score.

But I did learn that 444 kids sat the exam. 444! That's quite a lot! My maths is rubbish, but I think 71st percentile doesn't sound quite high enough - there's a lot of competition to get into Ashlawn.

Just thought I'd let you all know.

But the lady I spoke to confirmed ds should get a place in non selective; having a sibling in year 13 puts him above having an mfl place; however, as I thought, the mfl class works alongside the grammar stream. I'm not sure that is actually advertised. So well done to all of you who got into the mfl stream because basically, your dc will be doing the same work as the grammar stream, which is good news for you :)
