My DD said that without a doubt the hardest piece of work she has done ( sat 11+, King's High Warwick and Rugby School) was Rugby's comprehension. Personally, I find this reassuring in a world where academic standards seem to have slipped significantly in 45 years! I failed 11+ because my mother was terminally ill in the run up to it. I went on to Seconday Modern and after that, to Public school. There was (some) excellent inspirational teaching in each but the latter had by far the most exalted aspirations for us. I am convinced we don't have nearly high enough expectations for any of our schools!
