kitty, it sounds like your DD likes very similar books to mine, JK Rowling and Eva Ibbotson being particular favourites.

FWIW DD (Y7 but not 12 till July) has read all the Twilight books and thoroughly enjoyed them. I couldn’t see a problem with them for an 11-year-old.

She’s now working her way through L J Smith’s Vampire Diaries books and loving those too (though be warned that the books are much darker than the rather glossy TV series).

Also last summer she discovered Jenny Nimmo’s Charlie Bone books and promptly read all 8 of them followed by everything else Nimmo has written.

Sophie McKenzie’s stuff is brilliant too.

I’d be really wary of 10/11 year olds reading Austen, though. You have to be so careful not to put off children off the classics by reading them too early, and there are loads of fantastic books for that age group.

Incidentally, I second moved re. I Coriander, great book, but the author is Sally Gardner, I believe.

Certainly is Sally Gardner - whoops
Judith Kerr wrote When Hitler Stole the Pink Rabbit, another family favourite.
