Re: Y7 Parents/Consultation Evening
In saying that Milla, we had a parent's evening one week after the start of this new term. It was pointless!
Re: Y7 Parents/Consultation Evening
Oh yes, indeed it does!Friends who are teachers say they like seeing parents and it tells / reinforces lots about the child!

I think the same applies to parents wanting to see/meet the teachers as it tells you a lot about the teacher.Friends who are teachers say they like seeing parents and it tells / reinforces lots about the child!

Absolutely. I vividly remember a parents' evening many years ago where I was trying to talk to a father about his son. The man was picking things up of my desk, examining them, playing with them and all the time I was sitting on the other side of the desk trying to tell him that we believed his son may have had ADD.Milla wrote: Friends who are teachers say they like seeing parents and it tells / reinforces lots about the child!

Re: Y7 Parents/Consultation Evening
In my experience most of these evenings degenerate into a "free for all" after the first half hour or so, with some parents not turning up, others finding that teachers are over-running and therefore missing other (less important) appointments.
It is worth stalking the teachers that you want to see, just in case they have a space. Do try not to tread on anyone's toes while you do so though!

Oh yes - the parents who are pacing the room and taking the place apart and then can't understand why the ADHD is being queried! Usually fathers I think?ourmaminhavana wrote:Absolutely. Re: Y7 Parents/Consultation Evening
I think managing your expectations of Parent Consultation Evening is all part of the learning curve of being the parent of a Y7 child.
My DS's school has now had a slight change of heart. Don't think they liked me saying that written feedback instead of an appointment is inadequate as it's one dimensional and creates a negative impression so early in the school/parent relationship. They're still not having a second evening as "teachers have lives" Head of Y7 announced in Year Assembly today, but you can make a telephone appointment instead.
So I'll have to make sure I make my telephone appointments with the relevant subject teachers as necessary
