Fifteen pounds for only one pair of socks !!!! make that just one half of a pair once they've been in the washing machine......

Slightly off topic ( so sorry )but I note PP mum talked about pineapple dance wear being chavvy ? Is it? I only ask because my dd takes lots of dance classes and now she is really into it I was looking to buy her some outfits down that line...not sure if they are for her age though ( 6 ) Any other dance wear suitable ? ...Sorry back to C K now.....

hi scarlett
my dd2 does ballet, tap, modern and street, she is 12 and has been dancing since she was 2 so I have lots of dance wear experience!!! She now lives in various tracksuit bottoms and strappy vests. We are going to a family wedding and she has mentioned special trainers that might look good!!!
DD still likes pineapple dance wear from the pineapple shop but does not seem to favour the general pineapple wear that you might get in department stores (yes I know.. :? ) but this is usually popular with younger girls because it is quite sparkly/bright etc

Bloch and Papillon are good choices and they seem to wash well, Freddy is a range which is sold in the Royal Opera House shop and specialist dance wear shops. Adidas seems to be the popular choice for street dance.

The clothes for younger girls are so cute and lovely...as they get older they get more fussy about it being "cool" my DD wont go near Monsoon or Boden now :(

My advice is always get any dance shoes fitted by an expert especially ballet and pointe shoes and learn to do a good bun at speed!! (have masses of grips and bun nets at all times!! ) have fun!

Thanks Mum23....my dd does ballet, tap and musical theatre which is a bit of everything....so will check out all your suggestions.I still dress dd in boden, joules etc ( from their sale !) but she is getting a bit particular ! :( Unfortunately she seems to favour the short skirt, off the shoulder look and will pull her lovely " old fashioned" tops and skirts into said fashion...looking like something from the gypsy wedding programme !

   at that one scarlett - our latest disagreement is where a parting turns into a Bobby Charlton type sweep me over.....gggrr I hate that brushed over side parting above the ear look. What is WITH that?? The saving grace is DD mostly has to wear pony tail or bun so don't have to see it. DD has some of those off the shoulder type dance sweatshirts..not my cup of tea I must say but my DD is not an old bag in her 40's and I am

Sorry to go off but here's my contribution..I now occasionally use my DD1s old Cath Kidston bag which is no longer the in bag for Y9s (a large cotton type floral bag with sturdy handle that I recall costing about £30 in the CK shop in Bath...HAD to have or end of the world) Dahling you really must have a vintage look satchel now you know (eermm cost around £40!!! -However I insisted that a significant contribution must be made if DD wants a different bag having bought various perfectly sensible ones in the past that have been rejected. I now expect to be toting the no longer fashionable slightly shabby looking bags of a 13-16 year old over the next few years!!

Warning for Y7 parents and all those of you excitedly looking forward to September..Bags are a nightmare! DO NOT TRY TO BUY A SENSIBLE RUCKSACK social suicide apparantly

My DS (year 7) quite happily takes a sensible rucksack everyday and has, as yet, not complained. Lots of other kids (boys) have them too. I am soo glad I don't have a DD, they sound very expensive!

Twinkles my DS will be happy to take any old bag to school (won't make him take the Cath Kidston cast off though :D ) He is so easy going. I think it is a girl thing and only really kicks in once they have been at school for a while. I think with a (fairly) strict uniform policy the bags are a way of showing your style...(by having same kind of bag as everyone in your year  ) I am lucky my DDs aren't too bothered by JW or the other expensive brands that are popular at their schools. That said ..wear what you want days.....sigh

My middle son is showing a worrying penchant for fashionable clothing and always like to look well groomed..shall we say ! My older son throws on any old clothes and we regularly have to send him back to put on something less embarrassing ! I agree though, girls are a completely different kettle of fish and I can see my dd wanting only certain things as she gets older.Making them save up and buy it is a good idea though..maybe that might put them off !

Mum23...I hate that side parting too ! Especially when teamed with those sparkly tap outfits...they look so precocious ! :(

 I have an off the shoulder 6 year old too. She has for some years now been able to twist a t-shirt into a bra style top too. Highly disconcerting.
