Sadly I too can remember petrol at 5 bob a gallon - and in those days it came with armfuls of free tumblers or (much more useful imo at the time) toy cars .hermanmunster wrote:hmm - 4/11 a gallon when I first "worked" in a petrol station (my dad's - he gave me pocket money in a wage packet)Snowdrops wrote:Ha!! Yes, 4 gallons for a pound!!! Didn't like to admit that I remembered that, of course my Granny told me! I think my parents still use some of those "cut glass" wine glasses and some tiny tumblers as well. What ever happened to Green Shield stamps you were given when buying petrol? I had the job of sticking them in the book and they tasted vile. Then was the excitement of studying the catalogue to see what we could get with the filled books (not a lot if I remember correctly).

Oh the indestructible "cut glass" wine glasses ... I have them stashed away somewhere. The garage near where I live in north london used to hand out boxes of them. As for Green Shield ... got bought out and rebranded as Argos.
