Silly Speeders.

Any advice would be very welcome on my new crisis.......nearly getting splatted every morning by a silly woman speeding . This lady has a reception class child who just stares smugly at us, nose pressed up against the window as we all dive into the bushes. I've asked the school to mention it on the weekly newsletter, but that hasn't helped and I've tried approaching her but she literally drops the child and drives off .I've had to start standing in the middle of the road to give my DC time to get up someones drive , but the problem is compounded by the fact the road we walk to school on is a rural lane without any pavements.I've tried glaring severely at her , but I expect my face is just a blur, she drives so fast. Anything else I can do ? Anyone else in the same position ? I'm getting really fed up now and having to stop my older child walking to school on his own earlier, which I don't want to do ,as he likes ( and so do I )to be independent.

How long is the lane? Our primary school was down a lane and parents were forbidden to drive down at the start and the end of the school day unless they could prove they had a disability or their child did. This was for the most adhered to by parents, but every now and then there would be someone causing problems. Sometimes our head would ask the local police community support officer or whatever they're called to come along and have a word if parents were behaving irresponsibly.
Do you know the name of the lady causing the problems, if so I would go and name her to the head, and explain that you are really concerned there's going to be an accident .

I think I would call the local police station. Explain that you are concerned that a child may get injured or worse.

Rural area? Got a handy "community policeman" ? Sure he/she would love to have a word with her.

Highway Code fairly strong on "care of pedestrians"

I've spoken to the school about it .The problem is the school is in a very rural area ,so there's nowhere for cars to park and walk to the school, and we're the only family who lives nearby and walk ( there's a stay at home dad who lives nearer then me and drives  I call him the postman) so no one is really that bothered. only me.

Herman...I tried the community officer, but he turned up on some jazzy motorbike winking at me and showing off to all the children.

Take her car registration and report her?

Wear hi-viz jackets?

Speak to her directly?

In Maidstone recently ther was some speed awareness stand. At 30mph, x% child are hurt. At 20mph, a much lower % are hurt or injured (Can't remember the exact statistics but its quite startling). On the back of buses are adverts relating to this initiative. There an online site but I can't remember it. (ITs something to do with speed. I've just tried to look it up and keep coming up with local speed dating sites!) . Perhaps you could get some leaflets from this site, and get the school to hand them out.

Thanks everyone. I've just sent an email to a woman community officer this time and hopefully someone will come down to the school .The thing is , parents who are rushing to drop off their children because they are late for work just don't care and the damage a car can do to a child even at 30 miles an hour is horrendous. I might get to school early this afternoon and have another word with the mother whilst everyone else is hanging around ( and listening ) and hopefully shame her into driving properly !

sounds like a good move Scarlett and maybe you will get more sense from the woman community officer - if no joy will have to go higher up the tree.....

Having said that if all else fails and we recover sufficiently from Snowy's hen party then the EPE mob can come and walk veeeeeery slowly down the road

Feeling a bit hung over from the virtual hen night, but have managed to beat Scarlett to it. Here we are slwing down the traffic in rural Kent
