Why do people damage property belonging to others?

I think some people just find it funny and don't care one jot. DH and I went away to a nice hotel a couple of years ago and I felt really twitchy about parking the car near the main road...once we had got home and I went to pick the DC up from my parents, one of the tyres exploded and The Garage Blokey said he found a knife shoved deep inside the tyre You could see there were baby seats in the back and luckily it didn't happen on the fast lane of the motorway. The romantic weekend was forgotten as DH suggested I'd annoyed someone in Tescos or something.
