I hate swimming hats with a vengeance, can't bear to have my ears covered as it is cutting out one of my senses.
(can't wear goggles when doing backstroke either)

However when in parts of France which insist on swimming caps I find the really thin rubber ones best.

DD had almost waist length hair at one stage so swimming hats were a challenge. If you can plait rather than pony tail the hair it is much easier.
She used to put the hat on and then tuck the plait up the back afterwards.
