We have just been let down by someone re our year 6 leavers activity for the children to do together before the end of the year. We are having a family BBQ for the leavers but does anyone have any suggestions as to what we can do just for the children at this short notice. They are having a disco but it is with the rest of the juniors too. Any ideas would be welcome thanks.

our school normalyy have a separate disco for the leavers . The parents also attend if they want to,in a separate area with wine and nibbles to chat.

Is it not possible to organise this ,after all you can use the school premises and only have to find the DJ (the one for the juniors disco, perhaps?)

The parents contribute food a couple of hours of just the leavers dancing the hearts out is quite memorable.

If not, can you turn the family BBQ into a bigger party with disco music and games? The teachers usually attend and everyone has a chance to remember the good old times.

Would the school be able to organise a day out to a theme park nearby?

Coach and entrance fares will be better discounted if organised at school rates. Maybe the parents can attend to help supervise, less burden on the teachers.

Or maybe a local sports centre. Hire a basketball court and have fun indoor football, sports games. Something like a mini sports day but with food and drinks at the end and not sitting around in the hot sun or cold rain. One year, the children did it as a sponsor thing and raised money for a charity-their legacy to the world!! (might be difficult as you are short of time)

even the girls will enjoy it,maybe get the sports centre to run it,a lot of them have experience running summer hols activities and will be able to crowd control and mange the activities for a big group.

turn your disco into a dinner and dance. all the kids dress up and be served a four course dinner by parents. theme the night eg james bond and use the school hall which can be decorated appropriately. all the tables can be pushed back for dancing, games etc. its amazing what you can do at short notice if you have to.

One of the best activities I did with my Year 6 class was to get a local sculptor in who taught the children how to make a clay head. they did their own heads and we fired them in the senior school's art dept. kiln. A wonderful day and each child had a lovely memory of Year 6.

The school and the PTFA should have organised an event for the year 6 well in advnace and its the duty of the head t ensure this, is it not?

My daughters class are off to Lightwater Valley Theme Park Ripon, for their leavers trip. The school does this every year for class 6.(usually costs the kids about £12 each)

They also do a leavers assembly for kids and parents......................tissues to the ready

Footymad xx. I'm filling up at the thought

one of teh most successful y6 events we had at my school was a karaoke evening. The children loved it.

It was quite an eye opener. Some of the most unlikely children were belting out tunes!

Even those who didn't want to actually participate loevd singing along and cheering.

Both individual children and groups/duets were entered and they made posters etc.

Worth a try and not too expensive or difficult to organise at short notice
