Victorian help
My dd has to write about an eminent Victorian.
Any ideas? Not Queen Victoria. She has to make it interesting by Power Point or a game or a film or just write something or draw a portrait. She is very, very lazy and it's supposed to be six hours work.
Now maybe I'll find out if there's anyone from her school on here - perhaps Inky or Scary Mum lurk outside the school gates with me daily and I just don't know it!!!!
Somebody must know some interesting Victorian.

You'd recognise me with my horns and the fire coming out of my mouth.
Brunel or someone like that (scurries away to make sure he's Victorian...)?

Re: Victorian help
Florence Nightingale or Mary Seacole?
Florence was the first woman to be recognised as a statistician as well as her other claim to fame.

Re: Victorian help
Didn't know that about Florence Nightingale, but who is Mary Seacole? Never heard of her.
Dd says she's quite happy to do someone random like Mary Seacole. Whoever she is. Better get googling. Got a month to do it. I do not want to be nagging her to do six hours work the night before it's due in ...
What's the worst/best project anyone's dc has ever done?

Re: Victorian help
Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (first woman doctor in England).
Alexander Graham Bell (inventer of telephone).
Mrs Beeton (surely EVERYONE knows what she accomplished!).
Isambard Kingdom Brunel (engineer/bridges)
There are so many eminent victorians, it is almost impossible to choose. If you google for them you'll see how many.

Re: Victorian help
BTW Mary Seacole was a Caribbean Florence Nightingale - sadly fame didn't visit her in the same way as it did Florence!
Re: Victorian help
With three DC's going through primary school we've had some corkers, ginx. Do you mean the topic set of the work produced?! Our primary school gave up on them doing projects at home when they realised it wasn't student project, it was a parent project (ahem, ginx). They could do the research at home, but had to do most of the write up at school, and it had to be in their own handwriting. The quality (particularly of the "finish") deteriorted rapidly after this .

I'd try and encourage DC to go for someone a bit different? How boring it must be for teachers sometimes...
