Any tips welcome please from those whose DCs have already undertaken a DofE expedition, particularly what type of food to take both for the hike to keep energy levels up and for their evening meal/breakfast. Obviously tins of beans, etc would be pretty heavy with everything else they've got to carry. My DD1 is due to do her bronze expedition in July.

Hi my DS was in the scouts and when they did their long hike we went to Millets and bought some dried food, which he claimed tasted Ok. In the supermarkets they also sell porridge where you just add water. Biscuits are clearly always a welcome addition but nothing with chocolate.

DS is going this weekend. They have planned an evening meal of sweet and sour noodles. Breakfast is instant porridge and hot chocolate! Snack wise we have lots of individually wrapped flapjacks, cereal bars, dried fruit and a malt loaf.
They are taking a packed lunch for the first day. The second day lunch is more of a problem so he is trying a longlife tunapasta dish - will be interesting to see how edible he thinks it is!
