Mamabear, thank you for that explanation. Like Sally-Anne I have been taught about the practice, but not the reasons behind those actions, it has explained a lot. I took my son back to Bristol today and was fascinated by the vast Ramadan Mubarak promotion in Tesco . I love the fact that our country is so diverse

Mamabear, it is informative to Muslims and non-Muslims alike as we don't all have the same knowledge, so thanks from me too.

Indeed; I am slowly convincing my HR dept to consider allowing Muslims to have the day off in lieu of having to follow another cultures festival.

Eid mubarek to all again.

Just my personal view as a Muslim: I see it more as a bonus than a basic right. Even in Muslim countries, some Muslims have to work :).

Personally it wouldnt be a problem if I was allowed the basic right to work at Easter and xmas. It's not right being denied this surely?
Eid Mubarek to those doing eid today. I know there is a split between today and eid tomorrow.

[quote="Sally-Anne"I think the thread may yet remain as a testament to our ability to include all faiths on the Forum.[/quote]
Shouldn't inclusion of all faiths be a basic right that forum users should expect? What is the alternative, exclusion because of religious beliefs?

I use the word "include" in the meaning of "welcome" or "embrace". It is a point that needs making from time to time, I'm afraid ...

Hello everyone!

It was so nice to hear all the positive feedback from my post. From my individual experience I have found this Ramadan and previous ones also, very well supported and given lots of understanding from non Muslim colleagues, neighbours and friends.

Happy Eid everyone and good luck with your exams.

sbarnes - I'm sure there are MANY christians who would love time off at Christmas and Easter to celebrate their beliefs.

Unfortunately our jobs normally dictate when we can take holidays; I'd love time off to watch the Lord's test match :D
